Belur formerly called as Beluhur or Velur is a city of Karnataka, India. In historic times, around the 11th century, it used to be the capital city of the Hoysala Empire. The city has a population of 28,754 and Kannada is the official language spoken here. Belur is an agricultural and tourist city and both these industries contribute to the growth of its economy.
