Formerly the city was named as Paramuk, later Tipu Sultan named it as Farrukhabad after which the British changed its name to Feroke. Fort built by Tipu Sultan is one of the oldest monuments which still shows the architecture of the Sultan's time. The city is well known for its production of ceramic wares and tiles worldwide.
