Kayts is a famous village of the Northern Province of Sri Lanka. This village is located on Velani Island which lies off the coast of Jaffna. The word “Kayts” means “Elephant’s Quay”, it was given to this village since years back elephants were brought to this place from India. The village has a major population of Tamils even many Tamil inscriptions have the mention of Kayts in them. Temples, churches and mosques are spread throughout its area. The Kayts Island Fort is a must-visit place in this area. The beautiful fortress set around the greens and blues are a delight to watch.
